Stop When Urgency Is the Warning Sign

Scammers want you to act fast. Your best defense is to slow down.

Fraud can happen to anyone, and scammers often create pressure to keep people from questioning a request. An unexpected call, text, email, or payment demand may claim that you owe money, face an immediate penalty, or need to act before an opportunity disappears. The faster someone pushes you, the more important it is to stop.

Warning Signs to Watch For

  • Threats, secrecy, or demands for immediate action
  • Instructions to pay by gift card, wire transfer, cryptocurrency, or person-to-person payment
  • Requests to avoid speaking with KCU, law enforcement, family, or another trusted person
  • Questions about your PIN, card number, online banking credentials, or verification code

KCU will never call or text asking for your PIN, debit or credit card number, online banking username or password, or a recent verification code. If someone claiming to be KCU requests this information, end the interaction and contact us directly.

Before you act: Pause, take a breath, and give yourself time to look at the request more closely. A brief delay can help prevent money or information from being lost.

If something does not feel right, contact KCU before sending money or sharing information. We are here to help you take a closer look.
