Supporting Kitsap County Food Banks Through KCUCares

Hunger relief remains a critical need across our communities and it’s a cornerstone of KCUCares giving. Through our annual Send Hunger Packing initiative, Kitsap Credit Union and the KCUCares Foundation came together to support local food banks working on the front lines of food insecurity.

This year, we contributed $90,000 to food banks across Kitsap, Mason, Pierce, Jefferson, and King counties, helping ensure families and individuals have access to nutritious food when they need it most. Beyond funding, Send Hunger Packing allows us to strengthen relationships with the organizations serving our communities every day.

In the weeks ahead, we’ll be spotlighting food banks in each county and sharing the meaningful work they’re doing. We’re starting close to home—right here in Kitsap County.

Meeting Increased Hunger Needs in Kitsap County
Food banks across Kitsap County have experienced unprecedented demand due to economic uncertainty, natural disasters, and interruptions to government support programs. Bremerton Foodline, one of the organizations supported through Send Hunger Packing, has seen these challenges firsthand, and has adapted quickly to meet community needs.

Seeing a 66% increase in the number of households they are serving this holiday season, Cori Kauk, Executive Director of Bremerton Foodline, shared how the KCUCares Foundation’s support has made a tangible impact:

“This year brought challenges none of us expected. When the government shutdown occurred, Bremerton Foodline stepped up by adding two hours of dedicated shopping time specifically for federal and military employees. Shortly afterward, when SNAP benefits were put on hold, our organization experienced the highest demand we had ever seen. Once again, we adapted," said Cori.

"We were able to respond so quickly because of the steady support and strong connections we have with our business community. The commitment from the KCUCares Foundation gives Bremerton Foodline the confidence to evolve, adjust, and stand with those who rely on us.”

Stories like Bremerton Foodline’s highlight the importance of consistent support. When food banks have the resources they need, they can respond faster, expand access, and continue serving neighbors with dignity and care.
